MEETING POINT AND TRAVEL DETAILS
WE MEET OUTSIDE ALDGATE EAST UNDERGROUND STATION AT 7PM
Our Jack the Ripper Walk meets outside the Toynbee Hall Exit of Aldgate East Underground Station. This is situated on the District and Hammersmith and City Lines. If you are travelling to the tour from the west end of London or the City you will need to turn left off the tube, go up the steps, through the ticket barrier, and the Toynbee Hall Exit is the one on the right. The group assembles on the pavement outside that exit. Please note that the meeting point is on the pavement directly outside the Toynbee Hall exit. We do not meet at Toynbee Hall itself, which is a few minutes walk away from the station. Also please do not go to Aldgate Station which is a totally different underground station. Our Jack the Ripper Walk starts from Aldgate East Underground Station.
BOOKING IS ESSENTIAL
We don't operate a turn up and go policy as we think it sensible to limit the number of tour participants. Therefore we ask you to book for our Jack the Ripper Walk. The tour can be booked on line by simply clicking on the month you require and then clicking the date when you wish to take the tour. This will take you through to the secure server where you can book and pay for your walk. Operating a booking policy is a sensible way of operating since some of the tours that advertise that there is no need to book often attract upwards of 200 people all of whom are expected to see and hear one guide! By limiting the number we can ensure that you get a more intimate experience and that you can hear every word of the Jack the Ripper story.
WHAT IF IT RAINS?
Our walk takes place irrespective of weather conditions. We go rain, shine, snow and especially in thick fog! Just check the weather forecast before you set out and dress accordingly. The streets of the East End through which the tour wends its way are often at their spookiest and most sinister when there is a light drizzle. Somehow your footfall seems to echo louder and the shadows seem to grow longer.
HOW LONG DOES THE TOUR LAST?
Generally speaking the tour takes around two hours. It finishes in Mitre Square which is located close to Aldgate Underground Station. It is about a five minute walk back to Aldgate East Underground Station and is also convenient for Liverpool Street Station.
